All your adult life you are always reminded of the rules your mother taught you. And all your life you are coming to a decision to weigh these rules against your own rules. The one rule my mother always taught me was that the people in Waffle House probably make more money than me – so I should not tip them that much.
In my adult life, I have ignored this rule. I gratuitously tip everyone.
But it’s tough to ignore your mother’s rules to make yourself happy. You get flooded with guilt even though your heart tells you something is right for you.
Mother’s rules: the purpose to life is graduating high school (agreed); graduating college regardless of your degree but get one (agreed even if it just means you get experience and make lifetime friendships); get a good job (to be determined – I think you should follow your heart no matter what and you will end up making money from what you love the most); get married (disagree); get the big house (totally disagree); and have kids (disagree); and then as you travel abroad there are World’s rules that get added – get a mistress (disagree); pay for the mistresses numerous abortions (totally disagree); and on business trips release stress through prostitutes (to be determined).
