Mondays Are Yellow (Bangkok, Thailand)

At first I thought it was just an incredible fashion faux pas – but in the thousands. Everyone was wearing yellow shirts in Bangkok. I mean – I had the song, “One Night in Bangkok” going over and over in my head – and the city was nothing like I had expected.

I imagined debauchery. Drunkness. Orgies. Filth. Underlords. I got a contemporary city with massive, gleaming skyscrapers that reached towards the sky. Traffic that for the most part obeyed the red lights (except for the occasional scooter).

It was very much like my impression of Amsterdam. I had always imagined a Gotham City when I arrived in Amsterdam where drugs and prostitution was legal. But instead, it was a charming city, clean, and family-centric.

And here instead of seeing nudity and dozens of lady boys - I was seeing yellow shirts. Thousands of yellow shirts.
