I caused my first and only house fire when I was twelve.

My parents and I planned to go to the movies that night. And the excitement was overwhelming. And going to the movies for me living in Alexander City, Alabama was a big deal. My family didn’t go often. And usually when we went – we only paid for the big movies – or the movies that had been recommended by my dad’s co-workers / friends at the Piggly Wiggly. It was equal to a night of extravagance – for a lower middle class family from Alabama.

The movie was ‘Back To The Future’. The date was 30 October 1985.
