So much has happened in two days of moving to Asia. Or maybe its just the whirlwind in my head. I am trying to savor the un-knowning-ness part of it. I am alone and unknown. I think that’s the scariest part of moving to a part of the world that no one knows you. The second thing is when you realize you have no idea what in the hell anyone is saying or what the symbols in neon lights mean – but you know its some sort of language.
I remember my first couple of days in Germany alone – nearly five years ago. I remember going to McDonald’s and just trying to read the free McDonalds paper and the German words intimidated me. But I remember just before I left, although I had not taken any German language lessons I could browse over the words and get the gist of it. Or it wasn’t so scary.
And just in the two days I have been here – I can tell Cantonese from Mandarin. I mean I am using my Microsoft Office that has been installed with Traditional Chinese as the primary language.
